Child falls from balcony; cruise ship turns back to seek help (video)

On Dec. 22, 2012, Click Orlando reported that a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship had turned course after an accident involving a child. According to the report, a 14-month-old toddler fell from the 11th floor unto the 10th floor of the balcony while the father had looked away. There is no word whether the father will face negligence charges, as the investigation into the matter is ongoing. The cruise line was the Caribbean’s Monarch of the Seas.

Cruise Critic stated that the ship had departed Port Canaveral at approximately 4:30 p.m. and was destined for the Bahamas but returned to port following the horrific accident. The child was subsequently flown to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children located in Orlando, Florida.

Director of Global Corporate Communication Cynthia Martinez released an official statement on behalf of Royal Caribbean. The statement reads, “A 14 month old guest from India traveling on Monarch of the Seas was injured in a fall. The guest was initially treated in our medical facility, but required additional and urgent medical attention that could only be provided in a hospital.

The child’s condition is currently unknown.
